ISC – A Home Away From Home
When we landed in Calgary, back in Dec 2020, everything was so new to us, starting from culture, environment, weather and so on. Through FB we came to know about ISC and immediately became a member. My husband and I always wanted to volunteer for different causes, hence we connected with the group and did our very first volunteering on the Indian Independence Day celebration in 2021. Since then there was no looking back. We are still an active member/volunteer of ISC. We are very happy to be part of ISC. It truly gives us a sense of belonging.
ISC believes in giving back to the community through different social events and programs. I wish ISC all the very best for future. It is truly a home away from home.
A Community That Truly Cares: My Experience with ISC
I can’t thank ISC enough for the incredible support and guidance I’ve received since joining this community. I was on work permit when I joined this group. Being new to Canada, whenever I needed feedback on a product, recommendations for services, or just some friendly suggestions, this group has been my go-to resource. I posted many Qs regarding schools, PR, canadian citizenship, Kids extra curricular activities, purchase of home etc etc and the members have been kind to post their experiences.
The members are always shared their knowledge and also incredibly welcoming and friendly. It’s amazing to see how everyone comes together to help each other out, making it feel like a close-knit family. I’ve learned so much from the diverse perspectives and experiences shared here, and I feel grateful to be a part of such a supportive environment. Whenever a friend is moving to Calgary, joining the ISC FB group is my first recommendation.
If anyone is looking for a place where one can share, learn, and grow with like-minded individuals, ISC is the perfect community. Thank you to everyone in the group for being so wonderful!
Connecting Communities and people of South Asia and Calgary
As a longstanding member of the Indian Society of Calgary (ISC), I have witnessed firsthand the incredible work they have done across various domains for our community. Their programs have greatly benefited the community at large, but it is their specific events and initiatives for newcomers, seniors, youth, job seekers, and local businesses that have been of utmost value.
I wholeheartedly wish ISC the best in their continued efforts to bring Indian and South Asian culture to the forefront and to help newcomers find a home away from home.
Celebrating a Calgary Gem
I’ve had the opportunity to both volunteer and attend ISC events, and each experience has been truly amazing. I’m eager to become even more involved in future events, but being part of the volunteer team has already been one of my proudest moments. I wish the entire team nothing but the best.
A partnership built on trust
It has been an absolute pleasure working with ISC in all their events and being a part of an association that makes socializing and making new connections easy for newcomers. ISC truly is a ‘Home away from Home’! Our sense of responsibility towards giving back to the community, led us to come into contact with the largest association in Calgary that has been doing such great work for the society. A journey that began with signing up for volunteering, led to a strong partnership. We started with participating as vendors in their Summer Fest 2023 held on July 22nd. Since then, we have worked with ISC at various events throughout the year. We also catered for their in-house events of Volunteer meet-up & their Networking event of their Mentorship program. The exposure and reach that a business gets through participating in social events, cannot be expressed in just a few words. We have received so much love and acceptance in the city of Calgary through their multiple events, that it has helped us build our clientele in a new town. We look forward to a long-standing partnership with this awesome association and its team!
Had a great experience volunteering for ISC
Had a great experience in volunteering for various community events and also getting to celebrate some Indian events.
True leadership by Indian Society of Calgary
Calgary needed a leadership of all the associations combined and we got that in this person I admire. Devesh and his team have done wonders for this community in such a short time. Let us support all events so they can do more and more such wonders! Let us go Calgary!
Received tremendous support in settlement from ISC
I arrived here in April 2024 and was so new to the country didn’t have any family here . I joined the ISC Facebook group from my home country and was constantly asking for advice and was receiving it wholeheartedly from the community here. After arriving I got the chance to Volunteer with ISC which was a great experience as I met so many new people here and then got a Mentorship programme to enroll in as a mentee and Neha (my mentor) helped me a lot in that too. I’m glad I could find a family like ISC and get involved in things here.
How “Indian Society of Calgary” Transformed My Art Business Journey
I am immensely grateful to the “Indian Society of Calgary” Facebook group for helping me grow my art business. Initially, I started teaching free online art classes for kids through the group, which allowed me to reach a wide audience. The support and appreciation I received were overwhelming. Members participated in the classes and spread the word about my services. I have a thriving art business thanks to this group’s encouragement and platform. This community has shown me that I have the potential to succeed and has been instrumental in my journey. Thank you, “Indians Society of Calgary,” for making this possible!
Proud to be a part of this group
I have been providing my DJ/Live sound services to Indian Society Of Calgary since 2016. We have done a lot of events together and it’s always been an amazing experience. Other than my work, I am so glad to be a part if this group as it helps is connect with other fellow Indians. Me and my family loves all the amazing events that ISC brings to the community as that is our way of socializing with our community. Keep up the good work!
ISC has been an incredible support
Indian Society of Calgary has been an incredible support for me and my family since I moved to Calgary. From the moment I joined, I felt welcomed and connected to a community that understands the unique challenges and joys of being an Indian in a foreign country. The group is a treasure place of practical advice, from navigating visa issues to finding authentic Indian groceries and restaurants.
I have made lasting friendships through this group. Whether it’s celebrating festivals together, sharing job opportunities, or just exchanging stories about life here, ISC feels like a second family. It’s a place where you can ask any question, no matter how big or small, and know that you’ll receive helpful and supportive responses. I highly recommend this group to any Indian living abroad—it’s a wonderful blend of cultural warmth and practical support.
Thank you to all the amazing founders, volunteers and members of this group for their service to the society!

ISC – great community for Indians
A random search on Facebook led me to the Indian Society of Calgary (ISC) but who would have thought it would play such an important role in making us build a life in Calgary? From answering all the important questions that one faces when starting a new life in Canada to ensuring that all Indians feel a sense of belonging and community, ISC has continued to deliver consistently.
